Epson "Spectral Camera Quantification of Color Inspection"

A spectral vision system that transforms the inspection environment and realizes the quantification of color inspection, which was previously dependent on human judgment.

Quality Improvement: Acquiring the spectral spectrum of the entire surface, capturing color variations within the surface to enhance inspection quality. No need for multi-point measurements like colorimeters, allowing for reduced labor costs. Easy Setup: Provides programming-free offline software and image processing functions for easy configuration. Advanced settings are also possible with inline software, accommodating various applications. Compact and Lightweight: Can be installed anywhere due to its compact and lightweight size. Can replace RGB cameras or be added to manufacturing lines, allowing for space-saving installation.

Spectral Vision System

Epson's spectral vision system

In the manufacturing industry, various inspections related to color, such as checking for color variations and surface coatings, are conducted to minimize color differences between lots generated during the manufacturing process and to ensure product quality. In these color inspections, the currently widespread RGB cameras may not be able to distinguish subtle color differences, leading to a reliance on visual inspections based on human perception. This can result in variations among operators and the risk of defective products being released into the market. Epson has developed a solution to address these challenges in color inspection by creating a spectral camera that achieves high precision and miniaturization through its proprietary new technology, the "MEMS Fabry-Perot Tunable Filter," along with offline software capable of measuring spectral spectra (Epson Spectroscopic Vision Tools). This enables quantitative management of color, which was previously difficult, contributing to stable quality assurance of color on the manufacturing line without relying on specific inspection technicians. Furthermore, the inline software that automates inspections helps reduce the workload of inspectors and improves overall productivity on the manufacturing line.
